The Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority has been constituted under Section 6 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. The Patron-in-Chief of the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority is the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, and the Executive Chairman is a senior judge of the Allahabad High Court.
The High Court Legal Services Committee, Allahabad; the High Court Legal Services Sub-Committee, Lucknow Bench; 74 District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs); and 335 Taluk Legal Services Committees have also been constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
The District Judge is the Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, and a judicial officer of the rank of Additional District and Sessions Judge serves as the Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority. The Senior Civil Judge of the Tehsil is the ex-officio Chairman of the Taluk Legal Services Committee, and the Tehsildar acts as its Secretary.
