The Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority has been constituted under Section 6 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. The Patron-in-Chief of the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority is the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, and the Executive Chairman is a senior judge of the Allahabad High Court.
The High Court Legal Services Committee, Allahabad; the High Court Legal Services Sub-Committee, Lucknow Bench; 74 District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs); and 335 Taluk Legal Services Committees have also been constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
The District Judge is the Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, and a judicial officer of the rank of Additional District and Sessions Judge serves as the Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority. The Senior Civil Judge of the Tehsil is the ex-officio Chairman of the Taluk Legal Services Committee, and the Tehsildar acts as its Secretary.

Free Legal Aid: Providing legal assistance to eligible persons, including Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, women, children, persons with disabilities, disaster victims, and those whose annual income is below the prescribed limit.

Lok Adalats: Organizing alternative dispute resolution mechanisms for amicable settlement of cases, where the decisions are final and binding on all parties.

Legal Awareness and Literacy Camps: Conducting programs to educate the public about their legal rights and duties.

Mediation Centers: Establishing centers at the High Court and District levels to facilitate dispute resolution through mediation.

Victim Compensation Scheme: Implementing the Uttar Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme, 2014, to provide financial assistance to victims or their dependents.

Legal Aid Defense Counsel System (LADCS): Implemented to provide free legal aid in criminal matters to eligible persons, with the aim of resolving minor disputes through mediation.

Welfare Programs in Prisons: Inauguration of open gym facilities in district jails to promote physical health and mental well-being among inmates, aligning with UPSLSA’s welfare objectives.
